Road Traffic Safety


The overall objective of the programme is to provide the participants with understanding and knowledge of what organisational and institutional conditions are necessary for the management of an efficient and effective traffic safety work at a national level.

The objective is also to establish a systems approach to traffic safety and to give a broad knowledge of traffic safety management with emphasis on traffic safety strategies, measures and projects. The main focus of the training programme is policy and institutional matters on a national level.

The main topics of the programme are as follows:

  • Traffic safety in a global, historic and international perspective,
  • Different stake holders’ role in the traffic safety sector,
  • National databases on accidents, vehicles, driving license and road parameters,
  • Co-ordination, administration and funding of traffic safety work,
  • Different road users’ special problems and needs,
  • Behavioral models, risk theories,
  • The role and effect of legislation, enforcement, road user training, engineering measures, emergency, and campaigns on traffic safety.
