Assist external users in logging into Canvas
Staff and students from other universities can log in to Lund University's Canvas as external users. Here you can find out who can log in externally and how you can arrange a login.
Who can log in externally?
Almost anyone with a login at other higher education institutions in Sweden can use external login if you help them follow the instructions on this page. Other external users need to obtain a Lucat-ID.
If the person comes from a foreign higher education institution, approval from Lund University is required. A list of already approved and tested educational institutions can be found in the Canvas guide for external login (in Swedish).

Set up an external login in Canvas

For Swedish educational institutions
If the person works at an educational institution in Sweden, you should:
Ask the user to go to the external user web page and create an account. They can use this link:
Log in to Canvas as an external user – external.canvas.education.lu.se
- A Canvas administrator or course coordinator will then invite the user to the correct Canvas course.
- The user can now log in to Canvas with their regular educational institution login details.
For foreign educational institutions
If the person works at an educational institution in another country, you should first email digital [at] education [dot] lu [dot] se with information about
- the name of the educational institution
- the country
- the domain address.
If the educational institution is approved, you can then follow the same steps as for Swedish educational institutions.
If an educational institution does not meet the technical requirements for external login, a Lucat administrator can create an Lucat-ID for the user.
