New material to prevent cheating during examinations

Two course cards in Canvas with an illustration of two heads in profile with puzzle pieces and circular arrows between them. The cards are titled ‘Academic integrity’ and ‘Akademisk hederlighet’ (Academic honesty), both from Lund University.

Support is now available for teachers – with films, workshops and practical tools for talking to students about academic integrity.

How can we prevent cheating in examinations? In autumn 2022, Lund University launched a pilot project that has now produced practical support for teaching staff. Among other things, the project shows that:

  • preventive work requires more than just information – it requires practice
  • society is the purchaser of education and must be able to trust degrees
  • teachers want clear information, support in conversations with students and help when cheating is suspected
  • preventive work is an educational issue – not a disciplinary one.

Together with the Department of Political Science and the Medical Programme, the project has produced films and workshop materials for students, teachers and librarians. The material is available in both Swedish and English and is managed by the University Library.

You can find it in Canvas Commons. Search for ‘Akademisk hederlighet – Lunds universitet’ or ‘Academic integrity – Lund University’.

The project will be presented and the report published on 21 November – but you can start using the material right now.
