Inspera Originality

Inspera Originality is a digital text comparison tool that helps you as a teacher or tutor to detect plagiarism. You can use Inspera Originality when creating or managing an assignment in Canvas. Read more about the tool and how to get started here.

With a text comparison tool such as Inspera Originality, you can

  • manually or automatically check all student work that is submitted
  • detect deliberate or unintentional text manipulation and plagiarism
  • create analysis reports of the text comparison.

Inspera Originality can compare the material with publicly available web pages, academic databases, and previous student submissions. This tool has now completely replaced the old Ouriginal tool.

How to switch to the new tool in Canvas

You can activate the text comparison by following these steps:

  1. Click on Courses in the main menu.
  2. Open Assignments and choose assignment.
Or go to the assignment directly from the module where it is located.
  3. On the assignment page, click Edit.
  4. Scroll down the page to the box called Plagiarism Review.
  5. Click on the arrow and select “Inspera Originality”.
  6. More settings will now appear, but you can leave everything as it is.
  7. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Save button.

You have now activated the tool in your assignment.
