External login to Canvas

Employees and students from other universities can log in to Lund University’s Canvas as external users. Here, you will find information on how external login works, which Swedish and international institutions are supported, how to invite new users, and how to resolve potential login issues.

Who can log in externally?

An external account works for most Swedish universities. For users from foreign institutions, Lund University must have approved the institution. A list of approved and tested institutions is available in the Canvas Guide for external login.

How to invite a user to Canvas

For Swedish institutions

Ask the user to visit external.canvas.education.lu.se and create an account. A course administrator or instructor can then invite the user to the appropriate Canvas course. After that, the user can log in to Canvas using their usual institutional credentials.

For foreign institutions

Email digital [at] education [dot] lu [dot] se (digital[at]education[dot]lu[dot]se) with information about the institution’s name, country, and domain address. If the institution is approved, the user can follow the same steps as for Swedish institutions.

If the login does not work

Please note that only individuals with institutional login credentials can use external login. Other external participants will need an LU account.

If an institution does not meet the technical requirements for external login, a directory administrator (Lucat administrator) can create an LU account for the user.
