Tidy up your video library with Canvas Studio's new archive feature

Image showing video icon. Illustration.

Canvas Studio has launched an ‘archiving feature’. This allows you to clean up your library by saving old videos in a separate collection or deleting them entirely.

What happens when a video is archived?

When a video is archived, the following happens:

  • The video is placed in a separate collection in your library.
  • If it is uploaded to a Canvas course, it will no longer be visible.
  • A video that has been shared outside of Canvas, with public links, can still be viewed via the links.

When should you archive?

You should archive a video when

  • it is no longer in use
  • it is not part of any active course and has not been viewed by students in a year
  • it is a test video that is just taking up space.

If you want a video to be permanently deleted, you can mark it with the tag “DELETE.” Our administrators clear all videos with that tag once a week without viewing the material. To find out how to archive and delete videos, read our guide in Canvas:

More tips will follow, but for now, you can start cleaning up your library.
