Help someone to log in
A common issue is that employees or students have problems logging into Canvas. To do so, they need to have an email address in Lucat.
In order to create an account for someone in Canvas, they need an email address in Lucat. This is provided when they receive employment or are accepted as a student at a course. Please note that it may take up to several days to create an account, especially at the start of the term.
Assignment category determines who gets an account
The email address in Lucat is a kind of authorisation at Lund University. It is the person's assignment category – like student, employee or university affiliate – that determines what authorisations someone can get. All categories work for Canvas, except library visitors.
In the link below is a PDF from the IT website with an overview of the authorisations that belong to the different assignment categories (in Swedish):

Add email in Lucat if necessary
The email address in Lucat is often generated by the university, but the Lucat administrator can also choose to add a private email address under personal information in Lucat. This is done when a role is created or updated. Please note that it may take up to one day for Canvas to retrieve the new account information from Lucat.
Common problems for students
Sometimes a student is not admitted but still needs an LU account to log in to Canvas. A Lucat administrator can then add an assignment from the following categories:
- University-affiliated: Degree students
- University-affiliated: Students at other educational institutions
- University-affiliated: Participants in contract education
