External Login to Canvas

Staff and students from other universities can now log in to Lund University's Canvas as external users. Here you will find out how external login works, which Swedish and international institutions are supported, and how to invite new users and solve any login issues.

Who can log in externally?

External accounts work for most Swedish institutions. For users from foreign institutions, Lund University must approve the institution. A list of approved and tested institutions is available in the Canvas guide for federated login.

How to invite a user to Canvas

For Swedish institutions

Ask the user to go to the webpage external.canvas.education.lu.se and create an account. An Account Administrator or Course Director then invites the user to the appropriate Canvas course. The user can then log in to Canvas with their usual institution's login credentials.

For foreign institutions

Email digital [at] education [dot] lu [dot] se (digital[at]education[dot]lu[dot]se) with information about the institution's name, country, and domain address. If the institution is approved, the user can follow the same steps as for Swedish institutions.

If the login does not work Note that only people with institutional login can use external login. Other external participants need an LU account.

If an institution does not meet the technical requirements for external login, a directory administrator (Lucat Administrator) can create an LU account for the user.
